‘Digital Marketing’- Two words that didn’t find their meaning together a few years earlier. Who had thought that these two words would form one of the most prominent industries in India? But, what are the reasons for the sudden boom in the digital marketing industry in India? Are there any? Yes, there are.


But before we jump on to that, let’s grasp a basic understanding of digital marketing.

What is Digital Marketing?

As the name suggests, digital marketing refers to the marketing or advertising activities of different businesses digitally. This was too simple! Wait! Let’s not restrict our minds to the prior statement. There is much more to that. 

Digital marketing allows businesses to communicate, showcase their products and perform transactions anywhere and anytime. “Now, this sounds exciting!” Yes, of course, it does!


Now, coming back to our question. What led to the sudden escalation of this marketing industry? Let’s try to understand.

The Main Reason 'Why'

Is it right to say that we live in a digitalized world? We all will agree to this. Almost everything around us is directly or indirectly digitalized. The usage of mobile phones, laptops and computers is far from being an alien sight. In addition to this, the accessibility of the internet cannot be overlooked. The internet, today, is available in almost all corners of the world. This in return has surged the numbers of mobile and laptop users. To our surprise, this number is only increasing!

It is imperative for every business to share the same ground where their audiences are. So, if more than the majority of the Indian population is on the digital platform, where would the businesses go? Yes, you got it right! This led to the rise of the digital marketing industry in India. Be it social media, search engine surfing or online purchases, India has transformed this industry into a full-fledged market. According to different surveys, a normal individual spends around 4 to 5 hours of their day on their mobile phones. This gives businesses a perfect target spot and the digital marketing industry a reason to expand. Indian government schemes favoring digitalization have also fueled the escalation of the digital marketing industry. 


Almost all businesses, whether small or large, are in a quest to create their brand image online and reach out to their audience. This is independent of the place. The digital marketing firms step up and with all the technicalities sorted, help these businesses to flourish in the digital environment. An increase in the number of new business establishments marks an increase in opportunities in the digital marketing industry. And an increase in opportunities in any domain refers to the growth of that particular sector.    


According to various sources, the digital marketing field is growing at a rate of around 25-30% in India annually. And if the statistics are to be believed, India will soon become a leading digitized nation in the world.
